I have been so preoccupied with getting things done in the garden I failed to notice I have an intruder. I can’t remember what I planted in this particular container, but what ever it was, it wasn’t this !!
What ever I planted………..it would have been a herb, mint or coriander or something, failed to thrive and withered away with out a trace. In its place grew this.
I have no idea what it is but I suppose I should go look it up and find out exactly who my self seeding intruder is.

It's definitely a tree or a bush. LOL. Whatever it is, it's healthy.

You do know a Weed is only in the mind of the gardener......so call it your Surprise Plant as it was a gift.

Thank
you Frank.............I think you are right, it certainly looks more
like Forsythia than any thing else I can see, which is a bit odd cos I
can't see another one any where around here, none of the neighbours have
one so I don't know where the seed came from. The hedge I cut back
was a privit hedge

Yep,
I think it is a tree seedling of some sort--it's quite robust looking.
We have a somewhat similar plant in Louisiana we call a laurel oak http://www.sfrc.ufl.edu/4h/Laurel_oak/laureoak.htm don't know if that helps, but I bet it would be happy in the ground this autumn! Have Fun!

Well,
it doesn't look like a weed, so yes, some investigation required. Maybe
some clever commenter will be able to identify it. I remember I got a
garden 'intruder' once. It looked just like a white thumb sticking out
of my vege plot. It turned out it was a sucker from a lily plant from
next door's jungle. I dug down and got it low at the root and cut it
out, planted it, and it became a very attractive pot plant. A thumbs up
was a good sign.
