Garden 2014 no 1

The spring flowers are blooming and what better way to spend the first semi decent Sunday afternoon of the year than out in the garden? Not that I did an awful lot. I had already decided to cut back on the garden this year and spend more time painting, but it still needs a little TLC.


Today I cut back the flowering shrubs ready for summer. The buddleia was so tall last year I found dead heading difficult, after today there is more of it in the garden waste bin than there is left on the tree. Hope I wasn’t TOO enthusiastic.


Apart from some vigorous pruning, the only other task I tackled was a general tidy up. The garden was swept clean of leaves and general debris the wind had blown in plus some bits of broken wooden boarders that I found scattered around.


I noticed the rhubarb was sprouting so I covered them with pots, if the weather holds I’ll get the first of this years crop with in a month or so.


Oh………..and I couldn’t help noticing all the buds on the cherry tree.

    Took me a minute to remember who this was. funny.
    I am spending a lot of time getting my yard together. don't know what I am going to do about plantings this year. Your place is always so sweet. even if you do just a bit it will be nice

      lol..............yep its me. Sorry I've been offline for so long I'm not surprised you forgot who I was. The plan is to return the veggi patch to grass and have a less time consuming garden this year.

    Hi Loretta!!! Good to see you posting again after such a long time :-)) Don't know about up there, but down here the main thing is clearing up all the debris from the never-ending winter storms (there's another one in progress as I type this!!).

      Thanks Mitch, its good to be back. I've just been taking time out to concentrate on my painting and organizing stuff for later in the year. Hopefully I'll post a bit more often now. We have had storms here but I think you have suffered much more than we have. There has been no real storm damage around here and no floods, so it could have been a whole lot worse. Hope you escaped the worst of the storms and weren't caught up in any of the floods.

      Rhubarb is something I seem to do quite well with, in fact I still have a couple of pots in the freezer from last year. If we lived closer, I'd send you some :-)

      Thanks Michael, nice to see you here. I'm not going to spend as much time and energy in the garden this year as I have done in previous years...............time to catch up on other stuff I think. But its still nice to have a pleasant outdoor space to sit in once in a while :-)
